Mr. KOHÁN is a truly unique artist of his generation. A clarinetist, a composer, a visual creator who got recognized by winning the ICA Young Artist Competition in 2009, the Tokyo Music Competition in 2013 and many others, 25 prizes at 15 competitions. He also got wide recognition by creating and producing content on YouTube. His newest project is the Clarinet Anthology what determined to record all the clarinet repertory with piano, piece by piece.
Born in Hungary, lives in Tokyo since 2013. One of the most popular clarinetist in the Japanese society both as a performer and educator.
His compositions well known worldwide, mostly based on the rich heritage of his homeland. Involving Hungarian, Gypsy and very often klezmer music.
Teaches at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music since 2023, Lecturer at Tokyo College of Music from 2016 to 2023.
From the USA to Japan he played together with artists like Peter Frankl, Víkingur Ólafsson, Radek Baborak, Mayuko Kamio, Julien Quentin, Kristóf Baráti, Akiko Nakajima, Michael Collins, Mathieu Dufour, István Várdai, the Kodály String Quartet, Ensemble Raro, the Budapest Strings, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra among many others.
In his concerts he plays his own compositions and arrangements too and also improvises.
In 2023 he released his 5th album from the label Lakeshore Music Tokyo.
KOHÁN plays on Backun clarinets. This collaboration with the Canadian company let him to reach higher levels in his musicality with the best quality of instruments.
